A city that runs on the academic calendar

Gainesville is a university city, and much of life there follows the semester: syllabus week, midterms, finals, breaks, and the long stretch of summer. For students, that rhythm brings real pressure. Workloads stack up all at once, grades can start to feel like a verdict on your worth, and the people who used to keep you on track may now be hours away.

For graduate students and young adults building early careers there, the pressure can look different: long hours, uncertain futures, and a sense that rest has to be earned first. Either way, video sessions fit around a class or lab schedule without adding a commute.

  • Academic pressure: Deadlines that cluster, exams that loom, and grades that feel personal.
  • ADHD at college: Lectures replace a structured school day, and nobody checks in.
  • Living away from home: Roommates, independence, and missing the people who knew you best.
  • Exam-season burnout: Running on caffeine and short sleep until the semester ends.

When the structure falls away

ADHD can become more noticeable at college. In high school, the day is scheduled and someone is usually keeping an eye on assignments. At university, most of the structure is up to you: optional lectures, deadlines weeks away, and long stretches of unscheduled time. Strategies that worked before may stop working, and it is easy to read that as a personal failing.

ADHD is the primary specialty of this practice. The ADHD therapy page describes how that work goes, and the adult ADHD page has more on managing it once you are on your own.

Getting through the semester should not cost you your sleep, your health or your sense of yourself.

How the work is done

I am Jason Versace, MA, LMHC, NCC, licensed in Florida under MH21235, practicing as Psi Wellness, Inc. Sessions are solution focused and blended with CBT, ACT and DBT skills: we name what you want to be different, then work on the habits, thoughts and reactions closest to it. Short questionnaires such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 can give us plain checkpoints along the way, if you want them.

Worry, low mood and stress can rise and fall with the academic calendar, and anxiety therapy, depression therapy and stress and burnout describe that work. For the bigger questions of your twenties, see therapy for young adults.

A free 15-minute consultation is the simplest place to start. No commitment, just a short conversation about what you are looking for.

Breaks, summers and being in Florida

Telehealth sessions are available to residents of Florida, and sessions can only be held while you are physically in Florida. If you spend breaks or summers out of state, we plan around those months ahead of time so nothing comes as a surprise. If you are in Tampa, in person sessions are available at the downtown office.

The practical side of video sessions is set out on telehealth across Florida. All you need is a private spot, headphones if you share a space, and a steady connection. Diagnosis and medication sit with medical providers.

Common questions

Do I need special software?

No. Before your first session I send a private link, and at your appointment time you click it to join. A phone, tablet or laptop with a camera is enough.

What happens if I go home for the summer?

Sessions can only be held while you are physically in Florida. If home is out of state, we plan the timing of sessions around the months you are here.

Do you have a Gainesville location?

No. Sessions for Gainesville are by secure video. The only office is in downtown Tampa, at 400 N. Ashley Drive, Suite 1900.

How private is a video session in shared housing?

Sessions run on a secure, encrypted platform, and I take part from a private setting on my end. On your side, a closed door and headphones go a long way, and a parked car or a quiet study room can work in a pinch.
