What the consultation is for
The consultation has one job: to help you decide whether to take the next step. Fifteen minutes is enough to hear, in broad strokes, what has been going on and what you are hoping might be different. You get a sense of how sessions here run and whether the style suits you. It is a two-way check. You are deciding about the practice as much as the practice is getting a sense of what you need.
It is not a therapy session, and you do not need to share your full history. A sentence or two about what brings you in is plenty. If you reach out through the contact form first, keep it brief, because the form is not a secure channel for confidential health details.
- You share: A short outline of what is going on and what you would like to change.
- You hear: How sessions would run, from the first appointment onward.
- You ask: Anything practical, from scheduling and format to fees and insurance.
- You decide: Whether to book a first session, with no pressure either way.
Questions worth asking
There are no wrong questions on this call. Practical ones are especially welcome, because they help you picture what working together would actually involve week to week. A few to consider:
- How would you approach what I am dealing with?
- Would sessions be in person in Tampa, by telehealth, or a mix of both?
- Which times are open, given my work or school schedule?
- Is my insurance plan in network, or what would self-pay look like?
- What happens in the first full session?
Fifteen minutes is enough to know whether a second conversation makes sense.
What happens next
If it feels like a fit, the next step is booking your first full session, and our practice coordinator will follow up within one business day to confirm your first appointment. That appointment is a longer intake session to map your history and goals and outline a plan. The page on what to expect in your first session walks through it in detail.
If it does not feel like a fit, that is a perfectly good use of fifteen minutes. Finding the right match matters more than starting quickly, and the guide to choosing a therapist covers what to look for wherever you end up.
A free 15-minute consultation is the simplest place to start. No commitment, just a short conversation about what you are looking for.
Book a SessionWould you rather read first?
That is a sensible instinct. How I work explains the approach, which usually starts from solution focused therapy and draws on CBT, ACT and DBT skills where they help. My background and credentials are on the about page. Fees, the in-network plan list and payment details are on the rates page. Benefits are verified for each person before a first session, so tell us your plan when you get in touch.
Sessions run at the downtown Tampa office, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Wednesday from 3:00pm to 9:00pm, and Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, or by telehealth anywhere in Florida.
Common questions
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. There is no charge for it and no obligation to book anything afterwards.
How long does it take?
About fifteen minutes. It is a short call, so it fits into a lunch break or the gap between other commitments.
Do I need to know what kind of therapy I want?
No. A sense that something needs to change is enough to start. Part of the consultation is talking through what kind of support would fit.
Can a parent book a consultation for a teen?
Yes. For anyone under eighteen, a parent or guardian is part of the process, so it often makes sense for a parent to make the first contact. The teen therapy page explains how sessions with teens work.
Is the consultation for urgent situations?
No. It is for planning care, not for emergencies. If you are in immediate danger, call 911, or call or text 988. The crisis resources page lists more urgent help lines.
